For the SPEED project, I am helping in the development of a courseĀ on e-learning design and delivery, which is based on the 7Cs workshop and the Moderating Online Groups seminar. The challenge is to make it reusable by different people in different contexts.
How to make a course reusable? Consider the following:
- Clear objectives: Define a detailed learning design. I created a document with a table that included each activity of the course, its topic, its objective, its estimated duration and links to related useful resources. This level of specificity helps to determine the relevance and appropriateness of each activity.
- Core activities: Identify the core activities to achieve the course expected outcomes. Everything else is optional. Thus, people wanting to reuse the course can have the bare minimum plus all the extra activities that best suit their needs.
- Documentation: Provide enough documentation to deliver the course! Make sure the activities, include explanations, useful links and resources.
- Structure: Present the structure of the course in such a way that it is clear what is happening when, where and how. For SPEED, I will create a presentation that integrates the information described earlier and that can be use as a guide for delivering the course.
The SPEED project is ongoing. The course is not finished yet, so it will take some time to discover how easily reusable it is. Meanwhile, I welcome suggestions to make it suitable for different contexts and needs.
